Children's Writers' Network

For writers of all ages who love children's books

I'm planning a series of interviews with women writers/illustrators for my blog at: http;//claudsy.wordpress.com/. I'm still contemplating whether to post them here as well. Be sure and let me know what you think about having them here.

I've always been curious about what influences a writer's mental gears and shift ratio. (Okay, that was for the guys, but it's true nonetheless.) Our lives are influenced by all things outside of ourselves. But how much of an influence do we, as weiters, allow to affect our writing style, content, language usage, etc. We talk a good game about it, but do we really understand how much of it gets recycled into our daily writing?

We're told that we're supposed to have platforms, whatever we choose for that to mean. Each person defines that word as something slightly different for themselves and others. When I hear the word, I think political platforms or sermons from the pulpit. I was asked not long ago what mine was. I didn't have a clue. But I think, in really examining the question, I have to define it as curiosity about the process of writing itself. Whether that means the daily grind or the nuts and bolts of punctuation, I find questions to be answered.

I suppose that's why I'm developing this interview campaign of sorts. The first couple of months worth of interviews will be with women from all over and in various stages of success in their careers. Then I plan to move on to those of the male persuasion. For if I've learned nothing else in my many years of life, I've learned than men perceive the world entirely differently than women do. And that goes for their careers, as well.

So there you have it. Hopefully but mid week next, I'll be launching my first interview on http://claudsy.wordpress.com/. And what the heck, I might as well drop it in here the day after and run them offset like that so that those who don't want to go all the way over to the other side of cyberspace can get it here on a one day delay. That's fair, don't you think?

Well, gotta run. things to write, question lists to develop for the first five victims..er..interviewees, and all that sort of thing. Have a great weekend all, and take time to play.
